Pond Hockey Skatathon Changed to Dec 22

Due to a warm fall and the lack of outdoor rinks, the Board of Directors have been forced to move the event indoors.

It will now be held the afternoon of Monday, December 22 at the KCB Arenas on McIntosh Avenue in Morrisroe.

We recognize that Dec 22 might be difficult for some families but we ask everyone to do their best under difficult circumstances created by an extreme shortage of ice time due to the Dawe Center renovations.

If you absolutely can not make Dec 22, then we encourage you to do your laps during City Public Skating Hours at the Collicutt Center with Sat/Sun 3:15-4:45pm or Mon-Thurs 3:15pm-4:45pm. Call 403-358-7529 to confirm times.

This is our one and only fundraiser. No raffles, chocolate sales, 50/50’s , bingos, casinos, bottle drives or magazine sales.

Kids skate around the rink 100 times as a team and obtain pledges, in advance, from family and friends. Players are expected to obtain $40 each in pledges if they can. All proceeds go to league operating and help keep fees at a very reasonable $100. An easy way to fundraise and have a little team fun to boot.

Exciting prizes go out to the top three collectors in each of the four divisions plus, as a bonus, a pizza party is awarded to the top team in each division.

Your coaches have a Skatathon package including individual pledge sheets and instructions. They will announce your teams designated skate time. Be sure to wear a helmet and your team jersey.

Jump on board and do your part to keep Pond Hockey fun and affordable.

For the fun of it !!

Red Deer Pond Hockey is a recreational no-hit league for children between the ages of 6-17. We have one outdoor practice during the week, one indoor weekend game and two outdoor festival style tournaments after Christmas. Registration fees are kept at only $100 per player through parent help, corporate sponsorship and the one day Kinsmen Skatarama Fundraising Event in November. There are no paid staff with Red Deer Pond Hockey.

All children are welcome to play in our league regardless of size, gender, nationality, skill level or financial ability. Its all about fun. We have 30 teams spread across 4 age divisions with 442 children participating. Our weekend indoor games rotate between Red Deer and Springbrook. Outdoor practices are all in Red Deer on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings. No tryouts, no standings, no tiering, no stress. Full equipment required. (we have some used equipment available for financially pinched families).

Families in need may apply for fee waiver. We want all kids to join in the fun.

New for 2008-2009 is our complete new division #4 for 15-17 year old kids.

With the financial backing of Home Depot and the Kaboom
organization, Red Deer Pond Hockey constructed their very own outdoor rink in 2006 adjacent to the Kinsmen South Hill Community Center. The rink is home to many memorable events and tournaments throughout the year.

We strive to keep hockey simple and affordable. All parents are expected to help out in some way with the operation of the teams and the organization of the league. This is NOT a drop and run organization. Be prepared to chip in whether is be score keeping, collecting jerseys, organizing social events, helping with tournaments, coaching, building the rink or being a referee.
